  1. In this lesson, you will set up a mining company and start a raw
  2. material production business.

  11. First, you need to locate a site with reserves of natural
  12. resources. Click the Resource Map button to view all natural
  13. resource reserves in the map.

  17. reserves are represented by the first letter of the resource's name.
  18. For example, oil is shown on the map with the letter "O".

  29. in the range of 1 to 100, indicates the quality of the natural

  31. a higher cost than land with either low reserves or low quality.

  117. of reserve remaining in the land. When it reaches zero, the
  118. reserve is exhausted and you can no longer mine the mineral in
  119. that location.

  124. Instead of linking the mining unit directly to a sale unit, it
  125. might be a good idea to set up an inventory unit between them. An
  126. inventory unit provides a place to store large quantities of
  127. raw materials and can protect against unexpected surges in demand.

  129. an unexpected increase in demand.

  151. Your mining company is now ready for business. To see a summary of
  152. current operations, click on the Information button.

  155. Here you see the summary information for the firm. The first
  156. three details are obvious; the fourth one, average utilization,
  157. needs some explanation. It tells how well you are using the
  158. capacity of the units in the mine. The utilization level of all
  159. units in the firm is in a range from 0 to 100. If the utilization
  160. level of this mining company is high, you are running near the
  161. mine's current capacity. In this case, you can consider adding
  162. another team of mining and sale units to increase capacity.

  164. Note that most raw materials can be produced by setting up a
  165. mining company. The exceptions are timber and crude oil. Set up a
  166. forestry company for timber and a crude oil company for the
  167. production of crude oil. Setting up a forestry company or a
  168. crude oil company is very similar to the process for a mining
  169. company. You now have the basic skills necessary to run a mining
  170. company. You are now ready to move on to the next lesson.
